At fotografica we place equal weight on the technical and creative aspects of photography. In this workshop you will learn not only how to take control of the camera settings but also how to express your creative ideas.
Learn where to find the dials and buttons that control your camera settings, as well as simple and effective methods for caring for and maintaining your camera equipment.
Aperture (f-stops), shutter speed and ISO
Understanding these three manual settings and how they work together is one of the fundamental lessons of photography. These are the settings that allow you to blur backgrounds, freeze time, take photos when the light is low. They are also the settings that allow you to take pin-sharp landscapes or capture movement. Aperture, shutter speed and ISO have enormous technical and creative significance, and fotografica tutors are skilled in teaching you to confidently take control of these settings.
Light is the essential ingredient in photography. You will learn how to use your camera's light meter to read the light in a scene, as well as experimenting with white balance settings to correct or enhance the colour of the light in your images. You will also learn how to identify different qualities of light and how light can be used to support your creative vision.
Your creative vision, the stories you want to tell, the messages you want to express... learn how to match the photograph you see in your mind's eye to the photograph you make with your camera. There are a number of decisions you need to make before you press the shutter and this section of the workshop covers composition, lens choice, focus points, shooting angle, the elements of design (such as line, shape, form, colour and pattern) and how to confidently use these to create a successful image.
You will learn the difference between RAW and jpeg image file types, and be introduced to the concept of editing software such as Adobe Camera Raw, Photoshop and Lightroom.
Suitable for: DSLR or any digital camera with manual settings.
